Last Summer Getaway

We took a little trip this week to Southern Virginia. Natural Bridge, to be more exact. Places like this make me feel humbled by the beauty and power of nature. I know it looks like it was drilled, or mined, but it was nature that made that hole in the rock. Amazing and beautiful. Another neat thing is that a young George Washington was one of the original surveyors of the landmark. He even carved his initials in to the rock, which you can still see. We also explored the caves nearby and went to the Haunted Mansion, or at least part of it until Jacob was too scared. In Jacob's defense, I have to tell you that the adults in front of us left out the chicken door and Jacob lasted longer.

After leaving Natural Bridge, we drove home on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Wow. If you ever have a chance to make this drive - do it. We plan to do the whole drive someday, not just a 40 mile section of it. It was very hot and hazy out when I took this picture, can you tell? And isn't it cool how that hawk is in the photo. I totally planned that.

And completely unrelated to this post, except that it is beautiful, is the new secretary making its way to my house. With the start of school next week, I am determined to stay organized with all of my paperwork. What better way than to have something so pretty to store it all in?

Can't argue with that rationalization! Clearly you need the desk. :) Sounds like a great trip!
