Happy Happy ... Joy Joy

For those of you that don't know, Dave works in retail. This means that Christmas has been here for several months. Customers expect holiday stuff out almost as soon as Halloween is over (right, Connie?) so CVS begins to get trucks of merchandise for Christmas as early as August. I went to his store (at Tyson's Corner Center in McLean, VA) over the weekend to help out a little because today is the day he has to have everything ready. (All of the store managers in this area get together and do tours and a kickoff for the holiday season.) Needless to say, I am already in the holiday mood :D !!

I did an article for Scrapjazz over the weekend, creating some handmade items (you'll have to wait to see those) and this item didn't make my cut for the article. I simply covered a wood chalkboard with paper and decorated it. The letters use a technique I learned from Tim Holtz, who said this is a technique used by many primitive or folk artists. I have included a close up so you can see it better. Here is what you do:

1. Paint a base coat of paint and allow to dry. I used black.
2. Dab big globs of vaseline randomly over the painted letter.
3. Carefully apply paint over the letter, trying not to smudge the vaseline. I used metallic paints. Allow to dry completely.
3. Rub off vaseline with cloth or paper towel.

Other Supplies: Scenic Route Paper, Making Memories Rub-ons, Ink, wire and stars from Paper Source.
