When can I retire?

I got one of those earnings statements from the Social Security Administration. According to Michael J. Astrue, Commissioner, I have earned close to a million dollars since I turned my time and brain over to corporate America.

That seems like a sensational amount. Have I been worth all that? where the heck did it all go??? I certainly don't own that many shoes! Maybe Uncle Sam does though. On the other hand, I can't help thinking (especially when I look at the measly $2,183 earned in 1987) it feels like it should be more. I mean, I have been working for twenty years and sometimes I get so tired of it. Oh what I wouldn't do to be a kid again and have my summers free! Retirement is still so far away. (38 more years, according to SSA, which makes me want to weep.)

Obviously, my earning are still low enough that I take the bath amenities from hotels to re-purpose them. These cute packages contained a grooming kit and a shower cap. I removed the hotel sticker and decorated them with stamps, punches, twine and other bling. They are now cute little gift wraps for the next time I need to give someone a little token of appreciation.

Now, I must be off to work on getting to that elusive millionairre status.

Brilliant idea on the bath amenities.

And I know where you are coming from on SS. I very much want to retire today but by an article I read yesterday, I was encouraged not to start collecting SS until the official retirement age of 67. Bummer.
